Overview

The F-14 Tomcat was a twin-engine, variable-sweep wing fighter aircraft developed by Grumman for the United States Navy. Famous for its starring role in *Top Gun*, it was designed for fleet air defense and long-range interception, capable of carrying the powerful AIM-54 Phoenix missile system.

Deployed from 1974 until its retirement in 2006 (and still flown by Iran), the Tomcat became an icon of Cold War naval aviation. Its distinctive wings could sweep forward for takeoff and dogfighting or sweep back for supersonic flight. The F-14 was a product of its era — powerful, complex, and unforgettable.
